It was terrible weather last evening, when we were heading home.

The weather warning was amply conveyed on the overhead electronic display boards on the E 01 with a request to reduce speed to 60 Kmps because of the slippery road condition and poor visibility.

Did anyone heed to it?

When the police should have been out there in force to show their presence was sadly missing and only time I saw a police vehicle on the road near one of the accident sites.

Other days, when the Sun is out, they play what small kids do (Hide & Seek) but come rain and where they disappear into, I have no clue.

Has anyone been convicted basing on CCTV footage?

The journey that normally takes me to do in 1 hour and 20 minutes took me more than two hours to complete due to weather last night.

But the weather was not the only factor it took so long.

I say it was due to so many “Asses on Wheels” on the E 01 last evening.

I do not mind people being disrespectful to them but I am worried about our personal safety when many do not heed to warnings and trying to flaunt their wealth, stupidity and F#@&*%$ driving skills that may endanger another’s life.

I do not want to be just another statistic, just because of your stupidity and arrogance.

Keep your show-offs to yourself and tries your driving skills on a track specially designed for that and not on public roads please.

Not To Give You Sleepless Nights

I see the right words right in front of me

But unable to grab them with my tongue lately

Sign of old age or something more sinister

I am clueless, but prefer the former.



Rearing kids to face the future

The prime duty of a parent

This does not mean giving you sleepless nights

But to prepare you

As I had been in the past.



My speech may no longer be coherent

This does not mean the thoughts are in the same league

I can still run, toggle, fast forward and rewind memories

And enjoy every moment of it

Despite my apparently impassive looks.



I am not a prisoner stuck in an old body

I am still a happy bird free to roam the world

Taste the food that I once loved

Read a book and enjoy watching kids play

But these are now done in my mind only.

Unmasking ?

In everyone’s life, it is said that each one will get Three (03) Teachers, Three (03) Friends, Three (03) Enemies and Three (03) Lovers.

Unfortunately, they all are disguised and to know which is which with certainty , one has to learn from, trust, fight and love them equally, one time or the other.

At the end, you would be able to unmask all.

What was It running away from then ?

Life crawls to dry land

Once, million years ago

Was it to seek refuge or better life?

What was it running away from then?

War of some sort or degradation

Answers we would never know.



Life crawling back in to sea again

Millions years later

This time around

We know what it is running away from

The meaningless wars

Humiliations and degradations.



Living is going through circles

And have we come to the point

Where it all started

Once, million years ago.

Above and Beyond the Law

We all want to believe that none should be above the law.

This is good only on paper and some are always above and beyond the reach of the law.

Some rulers get away with even murder and not even get a knock on their wrist for their crimes.

But unfortunate others end up in more troubles than one could imagine.

There are two things that we can do in this situation.

Because believing in that law is impartial and has the power to reach at anyone is just another fallacy only.

The best thing is to stay out of troubles, if you have no way of joining the elite club of those are above and beyond the reach of the law.

Question of Allegiance.

Now the World Cup Cricket 2015 has entered its Super 8 stage and all four Test playing Asian teams are in the Super 8 stage.

The fans and money is in the Asian region and I am sure it will be a big boost for broadcasters.

Seeing thousands of fans clad in their favorite team’s attire swarming into ground, I could not help asking aloud the above question.

Most of them are either first or second generation Aussies, but clad in their former place of domicile (or of their parents') team's attire and supporting the team (when it is pitted against their present host country) is not amounting to breach of their pledged allegiance?

අටමස්ථානයට එරෙහිව නමස්ථානයක් හදා අටවැනිදා පැරදී නමවැනිදා ගෙදර යාම !

බුදු වසරින් නව වැන්නේ සුගත තථාගත සම්බුදු රජාණන් වහන්සේ සිරිලකට වැඩම කොට මහමෙව්නා උයනෙහි රන් ත...ෙළඹු රුක් සෙවණේ සමාපත්ති සුව විහරණය කළ සේක.

එසේ රන් තෙළඹු රුක පාමුල වැඩ සිටිමින් බුද්ධ නේත්‍රා මණ්ඩලයෙන් අට වතාවක් නෙත් මඬල විහිදුවාලූයේය.

ඉක්බිතිව ඒ අට තැනටම වැඩම කළ උන්වහන්සේ උතුම් බුද්ධ ස්පර්ශයෙන් පවිත්‍ර කොට බුද්ධ පාරිභෝගික ශුද්ධ භූමි බවට පත් කරන්නේය.

මෙසේ පිහිට වූ ‘අටමස්ථානය’ එතැන් පටන් මෙරට පූජනීය ධර්ම කේන්ද්‍රස්ථාන අට බවට පත්වන්නේය.

දේවනපෑතිස් රජ තෙමේ ථූපාරාමය ස්ථාපිත කරමින් ඇරැඹි අටමස්ථානය පිහිටුවීම මහසෙන් රජතුමා ජේතවනාරාමය බැඳ වීමෙන් පූර්ණත්වයට පත් වන්නේය.

එබැවින් අටමස්ථානය සිරිලක් සසුන් සම්ප්‍රදාය සේම රාජ සම්ප්‍රදාය වසර 2557 මුළුල්ලේ නොකිලිටිව, පිරිසිදුව පවිත්‍රව හා වන්දනීයව රැකගත් අපේ ජාතික සම්මතය.

ඓතිහාසික සිරිතය.

අටමස්ථානය මහමෙවුනා උයනේ සම අට දුරින් පිහිටුවූ ගණිත සූත්‍රයකි.

ගෞතම තථාගත බුදුන් වහන්සේ මෙම ස්ථාන අට බුද්ධ පාරිභෝගික භූමි බවට පත් කරන්නේ බුද්ධ රාජ්‍යයේ බුදුවරු අනුදැන වදාළ බුදු සිරිත අනුව යමින්ය.

මන්ද මෙයට මත්තෙන් කකුසද, කොණාගම, කස්සප පෙර බුදුවරුන් වහන්සේලා ද මෙම භුමි මස්තකයට වැඩම කොට ශුද්ධ භුමි බවට පත් කොට ඇත්තේය.

එය මතු බුදු වන මෛත්‍රී බුදු රජාණන් වහන්සේ ද ඉටු කරන බුද්ධ රාජ්‍යත්වයේ බුද්ධ චාරිත්‍රයකි.

කෙසේ නමුත් බුදු දහම අනු දකින අටලෝ දහම ස්වකීය ජීවිත දහම බවට සිංහලයන් පත් කර ගන්නේ ‘අටමස්ථානය’ ධර්ම නිමිත්ත බවට පත් කර ගනිමිනි.

මේ ධර්ම නිමිත්ත ජීවිතය දෙස උපේක්ෂාවෙන් හා මැදහත්ව මෙනෙහි කිරීමෙකි ජාතික අභ්‍යාසය ජාතියට ලබා දීමකි. එම නිසා අටමස්ථානය බැඳි පෙර රජවරු අසහාය වන්නේය.

අමරණීයත්වයට පත් වීම පිණිස මහ සෑයක් බැඳීමේ දොල පිපාසයක් ලක් රජ කිරුළ දැරු සමහර රජවරුන්ගේ ආශාවක් වූ හැටි ද පෙනේ.

ඒ පිළිබඳ මතු මත්තේ ඇතිවන ඇලීම ආශාව නිසාම ගෞතම බුදු රජුන් වහන්සේ අටමස්ථානයට පිටින් තවත් ස්ථාන දොළසක් වෙත වැඩම කොට සමාපත්ති සුව විහරණය කොට බුද්ධ පාරිභෝගික ශුද්ධ භුමි කොට තිබුණි.

ඒ සියල්ල ද පූජා භූමි ලෙස ස්ථාපිත වීමෙන් සිරිලක ‘සොළොස්මස්ථාන’ බිහිවන්නේය.

එබැවින් යම් රජකුට අමරණීය වීම පිණිස මහාසෑයක් බැඳ තැබීමට තවත් ඉඩක් නොවීය.

මේ ධර්මතාව බලයෙහි මුදුනට නැඟි කිහිප දෙනකුම අමතකව යන්නේය.

ධර්මතාව පිළිබඳ ලොව ගැඹුරු හා සුමට දහම රකින පාලකයා ලෙස ලක් සිහසුන හිමි වූ සෑම රජු දරුවෙකුම පත් වන්නේ නිරායාසයෙන්මය.

එබැවින් ලක්දිව පාලකයකුට රැකීමට “පෙර සිරිත” නමින් උරුම සිරිතක් වන්නේය. එය බුදු සිරිතට බැඳුණ ලක්දිව රජ සිරිතය. ඒ වගේම ජන සිරිතය.

එය සිරිලක දේශපාලන සිරිත ද වන්නේ එබැවිනි. පෙර සිරිත කිළිටි කිරිම වූ කලි ධර්මතාව කිළිටි කිරීමකි.

ඒ නිසා ලක් විහාර සිරිත යමකු තම ලෝල ආශා සංතර්පනය පිණිස භාවිත කළේ නම් ඒ බුදුන් වහන්සේ සිංහලයාට අනුදැන වදාළ ධර්ම විනය ද අනුබුදු මිහිඳු මහ තෙරිඳු විදහන කළ ආරාම සිරිත ද කෙලෙසා දැමීමකි.

සිරිලක් දිව අසහාය දේශප්‍රේමී මහරජ වන්නේ දුටුගැමුණු නිරිඳුය. මහ මිහිඳු මහ තෙරිඳු නියමයෙන් මහාසෑය ස්වණමාලිය බැඳවීමේ ඓතිහාසික පූජා උරුමය උරුම වූයේ ඔහුටය.

ඒ සඳහා රන් තෙළඹු රුක්ෂ රාජයා කපා ඉවත් කිරීම ද ගාඩි වංශය ඝාතනය කිරීමට ද කෙළවර වන්නේ මහසෑයේ රන් කොත තබනට පෙර මහ රජ ගැමුණු මහසෑයේ මස්තකය පාමුලම නාග ප්‍රහාරයට නොසිතූ නොපැතූ ලෙස ඝාතනය වී රජකම අහිමි වීමෙනි.

මහ සෑයටත් උඩින් ජේතවනාරාමය බඳින්න මහසෙන් රජතුමා ගත් ඓතිහාසික වරද කෙළවර වන්නේ ඔහුට එරෙහි මාරක දේශපාලන කැරැල්ලක් පැන නැඟී ඉතිහාසයෙහි මහ මෙහෙයක් සමඟ කළු පැල්ලම් තවරා ගැනීමෙනි.

ඒ වගේම අදටත් එහි අන්කොත තබන්න බැරි වීමෙන්ය.

අටමස්ථානය තනන්නට උරුම අයිතිය ලැබූ රජුන් දෙදෙනාම ධර්මතාවට උඩින් ගමන් කොට අත්පත් කරගත් ඛේදනීය ඉතිහාස පාඩම එයය.

එත් ලෝල ආශාවට නිමක් නැත. මහා පරාක්‍රමබාහු රජතුමා අසහාය වීම පිණිස තමනට අඩු එකම දේ මහා සෑයක් බැඳවීම බව දුටුවේය.

මේ අසහාය නරපතියා දැදිගම තම මවු භූමියේ කොට වෙහෙර ද තම ජය භූමියෙහි යුදඟනා මහා සෑය ද මුල පුරන්නේය.

එ මහා සෑ දෙකට රුවන්වැලි මහා සෑය ජේතවනාරාමය පරයන තරම් මහා සුවිශාල සැලසුමෙන්ය.

ඒත් මහරජ පරාක්‍රමබාහු මේ මහා සෑ දෙකටම මුල් ගල බැන්දුදාම මාරක දේශපාලන කැරැල්ලකට මුහුණ දෙන්නේය.

පුදුමය ඔහුට මහාසෑය බවට තම සෑ දෙක පත්වන තුරු ඉවසීමක් නොවීය.

රජ තෙමේ සෑය බඳින්නට පෙර මහා උත්සවයක් සිදු කොට රටම බුද්ධාලම්බන ප්‍රීතියෙන් ඔකද කර ධාතු තැන්පත් කොට පුලතිසි නුවර පැමිණියේය.

ඒත් ඔහු ලක් කිරුළ දරා සිටියේ එදායින් පසු දින එකොළොසකි.

රජ කිරුළ හැර දමා ඔහුට මිය යන්නට සිදු වන්නේය. ලක් වෙහෙර සිරිතට බැඳි රාජ කථාව දිව යන්නේ එසේය.

ඒ රාජ සම්මත යුගයේය. ජන සම්මත යුගයෙන් කථාව මෙබඳුමය.

මහ සේනානායක ඩී. එස්., අගමැතිඳු කොට වෙහෙරට යළි කොත පළන්දන්නට දින නියම කර ගෙවි ගියේ දින විසිතුනකි.

අශ්වයා මතින් වැටී ඒතුමාණෝ අතර මගදි මිය යන්නේය.

ලක්දිව පළමු විධායක ජනපති ජයවර්ධනයන් වෙහෙර සිරිතට පිටින් මිරිසවැටි මහා සෑයට රන් කොත තබන්ට මුල පුරා යළි රජ ගෙදර එන විට ඔහුට එරෙහිව මහ කැරැල්ලක් මහ පාරට ඇවිත් ඔහු ගෙදර යන්නේ අපවාද මැදින්ය.

ලක් රාජ්‍ය මතු මත්තේ පාලනයට වරම් ලබා තිබූ ගාමිණි දිසානායක මහවැලි මහසෑය තැනවීමට මුල් වන්නේ වැරැදි සිරිතකිනි. එහු අතරමඟදී ජාතියට අහිමි වන්නේය.

මේ සියල්ල අහිංසක මෝඩකම් යැයි කිව හැකිය. ඒත් මේ සියල්ල ජාතියට කියා දී ඇති ධර්ම පණිවුඩය ගැඹුරුය.

එනම් අසහාය වීම පිණිස යමකුට ආශා ඇති වුවද ඒ සඳහා මහ සෑයක් බැඳීම සිදු වී අවසන්ය.

ඒත් එය පිළිගන්නට මැළිවන්නේ සොබා දහමට උඩින් සිතීමට යාම නිසාය.

මේ උඩඟු කම කෙළවර වන තැන අටලෝදහම අටමස්ථානය නමින්ම සනාථ වන තැනය.

ඒත් උදේත් දහවලේත් රාත්‍රියේත් සංඝයා වහන්සේ යළි පිරිවරාගෙන සිටියේ හිටපු ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මහතා ඒ අටවස්ථානය මධ්‍යයෙහි සඳහිරු සෑය නමින් “නමස්ථානය” බැඳ පෙර සිරිත කිළිටු කරන තරම් උඩගු වූයේය.

අතීතයේ මහා සෑ සිරිත වරදවා ගත් අය මේ වරද සිදු කළේ මහමෙව්නා බුද්ධ පරිභෝගික ශුද්ධ භූමියෙන් පිටතටය.

ඒත් අවාසනාව වන්නේ රාජපක්ෂ මහතා ඓතිහාසික කිළිටු කිරීම එම ශුද්ධ භූමිය තුළම සිදු කිරීමය.

‘නමස්ථානය’ පිහිටුවීමට ජය සිරී මහ බෝ සමිඳුන් වහන්සේට සිසිලස හා රැකවරණය සැලසීමට රෝපිතව තිබූ පරිවාර බෝධින් වහන්සේලා විසිඑක් නමක් කපා ඉවත් කරන්නේ ක්‍රි. ව. 2011. 11. 18 රාත්‍රියේය.

නැකත දුන් ජෝතිර්වේදියා නැකත දී තිබුණේ හිටපු ජනාධිපතිවරයාගේ උපතින් වසර හැටහත පිරෙන දවසේය.

නමස්ථානය බැඳ වීමට භාවිත කළ මහමෙවුනා උයනේ භූමිය කණින විට එහි තිබූ කෞතුක භාණ්ඩ හා කෞතුක සම්පත සියල්ල කඩිමුඩි ලෝල ආශාව නිසා ද අතුරුදන් වන්නේ සහවැසි සගයන් අතට පත්වීමෙනි.

රාජපක්ෂ ජනාධිපතිතුමාගේ පාලනයට අට අවුරුද්ද නිමා වන්නේ 2015. 11. 19 දාය. 2014. 11. 27 දා එතුමාණෝ සඳහිරු සෑයට ධාතු තැන්පත් කරන්නේය.

නමස්ථානයට ධාතු තැන්පත් කළේ විහාර සිරිත ද සඟ සිරිත ද කෙලෙසා දමමින්ය. ‘වෛද්‍යන්ත පුස්තකය’ නමින් සිංහලයන්ට විහාර සිරිත බැඳි අත්පොතක් වේ.

එහි ඇති නියමය අනුව චෛත්‍යයක ගර්භය නමින් කොටසක් ඇත්තේ ධාතුන් වහන්සේලා තැන්පත් කිරීමටය.

ඒත් ඉක්මන හා අසහාය අමරණීයත්වය ගැන මෙනෙහි කළ ධර්මතාවට පටහැනි ගමන නිසා සියල්ල බලයට යටත් යැයි හැඟීමක් හිටපු ජනාධිපතිතුමාට පහළ වී තිබුණි. ඔහු ධාතුන් තැන්පත් කළේ නමස්ථානයෙහි ගර්භය බඳින්නට පෙර පේසා වළල්ලෙහිය.

මේ අපවිත්‍ර වීමේ ප්‍රතිඵල වූයේ අටමස්ථානය මහා ගංවතුරෙන් යටවී රටම සොබාවික විපතින් දෙදරුම් කෑමය.

නමස්ථානයට ධාතු තැන්පත් කොට හිටපු ජනාධිපතිතුමා අරලියගහ මැදුරට පා තබන්නට පෙර අසහාය රජයක් සීසීකඩව බිඳි යාමට පටන් ගැනීමය.

මේඝ ගර්ජනා අනෝරා වැසි නාය යෑම් මැදින් රජරටත් රට වටේත් මහ විපත් ඇති වී ජනතාව අනාථ වීමෙනි.

අවසානයේ අටමස්ථානය කිළිටි කළ එතුමාම අට වැනිදාවකම පරාජය වී තිබුණි. අටමස්ථානය නමස්ථානය කළ මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ ජනාධිපතිතුමාට නවවැනිදාට ගෙදරට යන්න සිදුවිය.

මේ සිහින කථාවක් නොව අද්භූත පාරභෞතික හිතළුවක් නොව ධර්මතාවයත් සමඟ බැඳි ධර්මතාවයය.

ධර්මතාව පසක්කොට කෙලෙස් නැසූ ගෞතමයාණන් වහන්සේ නවඅරහාදීය. ඒත් උන්වහන්සේ ගිහියන්ට කීවේ අටලෝ දහමට අවනත වන ලෙසය.

ඒ අටලෝ දහමේ ධර්ම නිමිත්ත බවට පත් වූයේ අටමස්ථානයය.

ඒ නිසා නමස්ථානයක් බැඳ විය හැක්කේ, අටලෝ දහමින් නිවී ගිය නව අරහාදී බුදුගුණ බලය හිමි ලොව්තුරා බුදුවරයකුට පමණය.

බුදුවරයකුට පමණක් කළ හැකි කාර්යයක් ගිහියකු කරන්නට යෑමෙන් විපාකය සජීවීව දැකගත හැකි විය.

ලක්වැසි අප සැවොම 2015 ජනවාරි 8 වැනි දා දුටුවේ ද ජනවාරි 9 වැනි දා අත්දැක්කේ ද ඒ ධර්මතාවයයි. ඒ කියන්නේ අටමස්ථානයට එරෙහි වූ පාලකයකු, නවස්ථානය තැනූ පාලකයකු අටවැනිදා පැරැදී නව වැනිදාවක ගෙදර ගිය සැටියය.

මහානාම මහ තෙරිඳු ධර්මතාව රකින රාජ දේශපාලනය බැඳ මහාවංශය පද බැන්දේ ඒකය. මහා විහාර සිරිත කෙලෙසූ ‘ම’ අකුරේ මහින්ද ‘ම’ අකුරේ මෛත්‍රී යොදවා පරාජය කළේ මේ ධර්මතා සත්‍යය අනුවය.

එබැවින් මේ ජනවාරි 8වැනිදා සිදුවූයේ අටමස්ථානය සමඟ බැඳුණු ධර්මතාව ධර්මස්ථානයෙන් පසක් කළ සොබාදහමේ ධාර්මික විප්ලවයයි.

It is the common and general misconception that the Tamils in Sri Lanka
took arms against the Sinhalese because of the discriminatory practices
by the latter against the minority Tamils.

There are two types of Tamils in Sri Lanka. One is the Sri Lankan
Tamils and the others the Indian Tamils. The latter were brought to the
island by the British to work in Tea plantations. They comprise 5.6% of
the population. On the other hand, the Sri Lankan Tamils whom the LTTE
terrorists claim that they are duty bound to liberate and are calling
for the Eelam are 12.6%. Out of which, 6.5% live in the Northern part
of Sri Lanka, 2.7% in the East and the rest, 3.4% live in the other
parts of the country.

If the discriminations against the minority were so prevalent then the
numbers would have drastically been different. Almost half of the Sri
Lankan Tamils are living side by side with the majority and other
ethnic groups in Sri Lanka in other parts of Sri Lanka. It is a fact
none can deny.

The Tamils in Sri Lanka or for that matter any minority is free and
entitled to live any where in the country, free to own properties or
run business, practice their religion & customs, to have Education in
his own choice of language, obtained Employments, Medical and Health
benefits, like the majority Sinhalese. Perhaps there may have been
isolated cases of Tamils being denied employment opportunity in one of
the key sensitive areas of employment such as National Security for
that matter. Given the prevailing War scenario in the country, can
anyone be blamed for such actions and it may have been done only
because of the sensitivity of the issue and not because of the minority
state of that person.

Furthermore, there are special Public holidays declared by the majority
Sinhalese government on important Hindu religious and festival days to
enable the minority to celebrate and partake in their own religious
and cultural festivals.

Every Government document is printed in all three national languages
and Tamils are free to submit them in their own mother tongue, may it
be the Birth registration, School Admission, Marriage Certificate to
Death Certificate.

All the road maps are printed in all three languages and every public
transport services routes are displayed in all three National languages
and not to mention the road signs. Even if you go to any part of the
furthest south of the island, one would find everything is available
even in Tamil as well.

I think that this is a very unique situation, although some Tamils who
have other vested interests in this so-called minority (or read
Terrorist) issue do not wish to accept it. Otherwise, how could they be
able to reap the benefits from the developed western counties, while
staying there as political refugees in those countries? No war means No
more staying there in comfort.

I believe that no Tamil living (I think except the ones living in Tamil Nadu) in any other part of the world, let it be in India, Singapore, Malaysia, Fiji etc etc or the ones that
are barking from those places like United Kingdom, Canada, Australia
and other developed countries have such privileges and benefits, like
the ones that are enjoyed by the minority Sri Lankan Tamils, while
living in as a minority as well in those places. If that is what, one
calls the discriminatory practices of the majority Sinhalese against
the minority Sri Lankan Tamils, then either the person does not know
the meaning of the word Discrimination or he is a hypocrite.

Thai Pongal is a declared public holiday in Sri Lanka but it is not in India today.

Ask yourself why and then you will realized that Sri Lanka is the best place for any minority to live.
